5 surprises you cannot miss this Bhaiya Dooj!
Bhaiya Dooj / Bhau Beej / Bhai Tika / Bhai Phota / Bhai Dooj name it any and they all relate to the bond shared by sisters and brothers. Falling on the second day of the Hindu Shukla Paksha, Kartika month or last day from the five days of Diwali celebration Bhai Dooj is celebrated every year with great joy and enthusiasm.
From childhood I have seen Bhaiya Dooj being celebrated in a big way. Like Rakshabandhan we (women / sisters) of the house apply Tilak / Tika on our brothers forehead and pray for their well being, happiness and prosperity. Hailing from a joint family my mom and aunt together organise an elaborate dinner for their brothers including my cousins.
With time being constrain in our busy schedule, here are some quick tips to surprise your loved ones this Bhaiya Dooj!
Multiply your savings:
Who doesn’t like gifts, especially when it’s a surprise! We tend to behave like children and eagerly look forward to opening our gifts, goodies or the envelopes stacked with Gandhi notes.
How about gifting your sister a little fixed deposit (FD) or money saving policy that helps her save. She will definitely thank you for earning the recurring additional income. Alternatively ease her cash flow by paying off her following month’s house rent / any other instalment / credit card bill or any other bill.
Personalised messages always work the best. They help you express and communicate your love, respect and feelings for near and dear ones. Communication mends every distanced relation.
So let distance not be an excuse. Make a phone call or give a handwritten note. Send an email or meet in person being the best option.
Cook it up:
“A way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.” As much as it’s true, not only women but men too make great cooks. So all you brothers just pick the cookbook and look up your sister’s favourite food. Garnish some love and surprise her cause this is going to sweep her heart away.
If you are doubting your chef skills over excess salt or burnt food, don’t you worry! Just share a laugh with her over your meal cause she will definitely appreciate you making an effort.
Bring the child out in you. Pull out some board games or play an indoor / outdoor sport that you played together as children. Surprise her with a collage of childhood memories or put up some stick’s around the house with short messages that brings back memories of the time spent together.
Jet Set Go:
We all love holidays, and why not when they come with a surprise! Well its not always about an extravagant holiday, a weekend get away does the trick. Try something different – go for a picnic, trekking, rafting, theme and amusement parks, laze in the mountains.
Some of the options around Mumbai being Matheran, Lonavla, Mahableshwar, Goa, Kolad, Esselworld, Della Adventures, etc.
Last but not the least Hug each other, kiss and thank each other for making your day special and being around unconditionally.
Style Prer suggests making the threads of a relationship stronger is easier and long lasting than making materialistic bonds stronger.
Wishing you all a very Happy Deepavali, Prosperous New Year and Bhaiya Dooj.
