Even if you’ve never heard or owned polki (uncut diamond) jewellery, chances are that you might have seen its opulence on the big screen, especially in Bollywood. Dated back into centuries, this is that one jewellery category that has been worn and passed down to generations by the royal families. In India, polki jewellery today holds a special place in festivities and traditions.
I think by now you all are aware of my fondness for polki jewellery, having mentioned it a few times in my previous posts. Descending from Rajasthani’s, I was blessed with early introductions and having easy access to ancient design and craft. Having said that polki tends to get generalized as ‘festive’ or ‘wedding’ wear making it something that most women don’t consider as their first option for other occasions.

Most Indian women including me have a curvaceous body structure and we tend to choose our wardrobe considering what suits our body type the best! Irrespective of the attire, in my opinion what makes a look come alive is the jewellery adorned with it. When selecting my jewellery, I usually like to experiment looks that are out of the box. Being a jewellery enthusiast, the moment I look at a piece of jewellery, its manufacturing, finesse and design sensibilities is something that I observe. Another important aspect for me is how practical, comfortable and functional the jewellery is when worn.
While curating different looks for numerous shoots this year (2017), It came as no surprise that Earrings have been demanded the most by my followers. Its that one piece of jewellery which can change everything. It could add the glow on your face and the spark to your attire. Allow me to show that how you could transform your wardrobe by simply adding a stunning piece of polki earring.
The Bridal Look
No bridal look is complete without the quintessential jhumkas! Inspired by the grandeur of Jaipur, I paired my jhumkas with a silver kurta, cream skirt and orange dupatta by designer “Armuse By Ayushi“. By themselves they are quite the attention grabbers and appropriate for a sombre day affair. But if you’re looking for the star attraction add a hand cuff or cocktail ring to complete your look.
Cocktail Wear

If you want to be red carpet ready or are heading for a cocktail evening, try out this unique blend where west meets the east. I matched my pink gown with bold polki and ruby jhumkas that are pinned up to a simple loose pony. When wearing a simple or a solid coloured ensemble, opt for statement jewellery that will command attention. And if you’re looking at being a complete badass diva, there’s nothing like adding a bold nath (nose ring). I have been a big fan of naths off late and they undoubtedly hold my attention.
Little Black Dress (LBD)
Fashion mogul Karl Lagerfeld famously quoted “One is never overdressed or underdressed in the Little Black Dress”. But what’s an appearance if you haven’t quite taken a risk! Its rare for women to experiment a LBD paired with Indian jewellery. Myth would say that they don’t go well together. I chose to take the road less travelled and break the monotony of my LBD with polki and emerald shoulder dusters. Ear crawlers, ear climbers, shoulder dusters or jhumkas; pair any and you can never go wrong with them.
Denims
By far the most preferred option by women while pairing jewellery with denim is a diamond / gold earring or ear studs. For a brunch look or to make a perfect impression try any of the above. I opted for an unusual bold round floral ear stud encrusted with polki and emeralds.
Style Prer feels, when it comes to accessorizing there’s no right or wrong. You’ve got to be confident, you’ve got to be bold and you’ve got to be ready to break the norm!!!
